Whenever I cannot source something I am currently pining for, I try to think of ways to DIY it myself. A few places are carrying men's leather shorts, but most are either out of my price range or not exactly what I was looking for aesthetically. So I took to crafting my own from a pair of $10 leather pants from my local thrift store. First, I found a pair that fit me well in the waist area in this rich, caramel leather.
NOTE: Now, there are a few options in hemming leather. You can sew a hem into leather, but you need a very steady hand with strong sewing abilities; as leather shows when stitched poorly. You can also just cut straight across with leather and it will not fray or get shorter with time for a more edgy look. Or, you can go the route detailed below.
SUPPLIES:
A pair of leather pants
Scissors
Clips [I used bobby pins]
Fabric Glue
An Iron & A Towel
Step 1: Decide the length you want them to be, then lay them out and mark the sides, noting that they are even.
Step 2: You are going to want to cut about 3/4 of an inch below the length you want, so you can fold this extra under when gluing.
Step 3: Fold that extra 3/4 of an inch under and clip with a very precise, nice fold. Bobby pins actually worked very well for me.
Step 4: Start gluing the fold in 6-7 inches sections at a time, really holding together on the line for a flat fold. After you have glued the circumference of both legs. Place a towel over the leather, so that it does not burn the leather, and iron to help set the glue. And VOILA; you've got yourself some leather shorts that you made.
